Catherine Curr

B.Ed., AMusA

Catherine has enjoyed much success as a piano teacher and provides tuition to students from beginner to Advanced levels. She has a strong commitment to the educational interests of children and, in addition to her involvement with teaching piano, has been an Infants School Teacher with the NSW Department of Education for over thirty years.

As performance is an important aspect of learning to play an instrument, each Semester Catherine’s students perform in her Studio Concert at the Macquarie Conservatorium, enabling them to share their talents with each other and with their parents. Her students are also encouraged to perform in Eisteddfods, exams and various other concerts as appropriate.

She also has a strong commitment to her own Professional Development and regularly attends Seminars and Workshops in Sydney in order to keep abreast with the latest thinking in Piano Pedagogy.

Catherine is of the belief that all children can be involved with music and learn the skills that will enable them to have a fulfilling and enriched musical life.

 

Shannon Laundon - Brass, Piano, Theory

BMus (with distinction), AMusA

Shannon Laundon completed a Bachelor of Music (with distinction) at the University of Southern Queensland in 2010 majoring in piano and was awarded a Faculty of Arts Medal. In addition to gaining her AMusA in piano, Shannon has completed her 8th Grade Trombone exam. Shannon has taught piano, brass and theory at various private schools in Toowoomba and surrounds and in her home studio and is also an accomplished accompanist and conductor.

 

Alice Aitcheson - Violin, Theory

BMus (MusEd)

Alice began her music studies at the age of 12 when she started violin in Dubbo under the Suzuki method. After 2 years under the Suzuki method she commenced studies in Orange with Lorraine Moxey (a member of Australian Brandenburg Orchestra) with several scholarship assistances. At this time she was a member of Orange Symphony Orchestra and completed multiple violin and musicianship exams with mostly distinction grades.
 
In 2004, Alice completed her HSC with extension music and gained entry into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, also with the assistance of scholarships. During her university years she was a member of Sydney University Orchestra, Sydney Intercol Orchestra, Music and Drama Coordinator at the Women’s College, as well as many other Music and Theatrical organisations.
 
In 2006, Alice began teaching the string program at Leichhardt Public School with only 5 students and then in 2009 40+ students performed at the Sydney Opera House for the Instrumental Festival as part of the Department of Education Creative Arts. Alice has also worked with Music Therapy and Adult Music learning. At the end of 2009, Alice completed a Bachelor of Music & Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in violin and education and is now currently the Head of Music at the Dubbo Christian School.
 
Alice is passionate about music and its ability to relate to all humans. She creates music lessons not for music’s sake but for the students’ sake.
